<empty> How we work

For many New York City women, transitioning into the workforce is wrought with challenges that they are often minimally prepared to face. These include learning to dress for a professional setting, anticipating questions in job interviews and balancing the demands of home and work. Bottomless Closet works to reduce the barriers many women face in the search for employment as well as provide on-going workshops so that women gain the tools to succeed in their professional and personal lives.

Interview Coaching & Clothing Consultation:
Women are initially referred to Bottomless Closet by a partnering organization once they have secured a job interview. The client meets one-on-one with a volunteer to select business-appropriate interview clothing, conduct mock interviews, practice presentation skills and review their resume. Perhaps most important is the self-confidence that develops out of the respect and encouragement offered by Bottomless Closet. Virtually 100% of clients surveyed agreed that the preparation and coaching they received were extremely important for their job interviews. While the clothes are the first step and often the lure, our goal is to build a lasting connection with the women who walk through our doors. We encourage women to return and participate in professional development and financial management workshops, as well as take advantage of the personal enrichment opportunities.

Workshops Series:
Bottomless Closet believes it is critical to provide on-going support for our clients to achieve self-sufficiency. Therefore we have developed an extensive series of educational workshops designed to provide practical, accessible information on a range of topics including professional development, financial management and personal enrichment. Facilitated by volunteers who are professionals in their fields, our workshops provide the opportunity for women to learn the concrete skills required to succeed professionally and personally. Our services are provided with the goal of strengthening a woman’s ability to secure and maintain employment, overcome the challenges of poverty and ultimately reach self-sufficiency. Bottomless Closet’s programs are provided free of charge
